Zamboanga City – A police convoy was ambushed by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits in Sulu where injuring a policeman on Monday.
In a statement, Maj. Arvin John Encinas spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) said the police convoy was traveling from Igasan to Barangay Taglibi when they were ambushed at about 7:59am in Barangay Igasan, Patikul, Sulu.
Encinas said the policemen engaged the bandits in a firefight that lasted for 10 minutes.
The name of the wounded policeman has not yet been released.
Troops from the patrol base stationed in the barangay were unable to provide reinforcement as the bandits fired at them as well.
Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team from Kan Ague village met and engaged in a 10-minute firefight the fleeing ASG bandits. The ASG fled south to the hinterlands of Patikul. (RJ Espartinez)
