Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo on Friday said that if she was elected president, she would not let her vice president suffer the same fate she had under President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Hindi ko gagawin sa vice president yung na-experience ko as vice president ngayonm, kasi ang paniniwala ko, ang bansa natin ang magbe-benefit kung ang president at vice president work well together,” she said in a press briefing in Sorsogon.

It would not matter if the next president was an ally of the Duterte administration, Robredo said.

“Kahit sino yung maging vice president, bibigyan natin ng malaking role sa pamahalaan dahil yung pagkakaintindihan namin, magreresulta ito ng maraming kabutihan para sa bansa natin,” she said.

In 2016, Duterte gave Robredo chairmanship of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council under his Cabinet, but resigned because of the former’s instruction.

In 2019, Robredo was named into the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs but was removed in just 19 days.

In selecting her Cabinet members, Robredo said she would put political parties to the side.

“’Yung pagpili ng cabinet, napakahalaga nito. ‘Yung pagpili ng cabinet, hindi siya dapat tinitingnan sa partylines. Dapat ang pagpili ng cabinet, pinipili natin ‘yung best in their field,” she said.

Robredo earlier said that she was willing to give even Duterte a Cabinet post should she reverse roles with Duterte in 2022.

The president backed out from the 2022 elections and was replaced by his long-time aide, Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go. Robredo, meanwhile, will run for president. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
