The Philippines reported Wednesday 32,246 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide count to 3,058,634.

Among the new cases, 31,793 of them happened within December 30, 2021 to January 12, 2022. 

The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the regions with the most cases in the recent two weeks at 17,902 or 56%; followed by Calabarzon with 6,838 or 22%; and Central Luzon with 3,268 or 10%.

The Department of Health (DOH) also confirmed that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional on January 10, 2022, while 11 laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Currently, there are 208,164 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 6,435 are asymptomatic, 197,091 are mild, 2,872 are moderate, 1,468 are severe and 298 are critical.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 2,797,816 with 5,063 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, reached 52,654 with 144 new fatalities. 

The health department said that 85 duplicates were removed from the total count, as well as 67 recoveries and one death. Ronald Espartinez
