Metro Manila mayors have responded to the surge of Covid-19 infections in the region by imposing curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos said on Thursday that the uniform curfew hours was agreed upon by Metro Manila mayors as one of the measures to contain the surge.

The curfew hours will take effect on March 15, 2021, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and will last for two weeks. Essential workers and those with medical emergencies are exempted.

Local governments that imposed uniform curfew hours according to MMDA’s Facebook post are as follows:

Caloocan
Muntinlupa
San Juan
Pasay
Las Piñas
Malabon
Manila
Taguig
Valenzuela
Paranaque
Mandaluyong
Marikina
Navotas

Abalos also said that aside from uniform and longer curfew hours, cities would also intensify Covid-19 testing and contact tracing.

“Granular lockdowns” may be imposed in villages or and streets with high Covid-19 cases, the MMDA said.

Abalos urged the public to comply with the curfew hours, saying individual discipline would help avoid the spread of Covid-19. H.B. Oledan
