Palace spokesman Harry Roque on Tuesday reiterated President Rodrigo Duterte’s “zero tolerance” for corruption as he alleged that a Land Transportation Office (LTO) officer was participating in extortion activities.
LTO Region 7 Direcor Victor Caindec allegedly extorted money from motorcycle distributors in Cebu, Roque said.
Roque said LTO chief Edgar Galvante had ordered motorcycle distributors to register in other regions after the issue was brought to light.
“I have affidavits to prove po na kinikikilan niya iyong mga motorcycle distributors, and this is a matter of public document already,” Roque said in a Palace briefing.
On Monday, Roque urged Caindec to “shape up” and rectify his wrongdoings.
“Pinagbibigyan muna po natin iyong tao na affected na i-rectify iyong kaniyang mga pagkakamali. So nananawagan po ako – diyan po sa Visayas, iyong isang kurakot na regional director – clean up po because the president will not tolerate corruption, not even a whiff of corruption,” he said.
In response to the allegations, Caindec claimed he was the one who had received a bribe offer to halt the allegations on illegal registration processes and that the accusations were merely attempts to stain his clean record.
