The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized unlicensed firearms and P10 million worth of illegal cigarettes in a raid last Aug 25.

In a joint operation with the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine Coast Guard, Chinese-made cigarettes and other items were retrieved by Customs personnel inside a store and storage establishment in Makati.

“The team also discovered unlicensed short and long firearms as well as COVID-19 test kits and the Chinese medicine, Linhua Qingwen Jiaonang, used to treat COVID-19 patients and suspected to be sold in public. Other goods found on-site include face masks and liquors,” Customs said.

Further investigation was being conducted to ensure that the area is clear of any other firearms, Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Raniel Ramiro said.

The agency said that the medicines and kits would be turned over to the Food and Drug Administration. The firearms would be turned over to the Philippine National Police. Ma. Veracel A. Martinez
