A village chief from Mahaplag town, Leyte was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen along a major highway leading to Baybay City on Thursday afternoon.
The village chief of Onion, Mahaplag, was identified by the Baybay City police station as Noel Oranio, 48.
According to authorities investigating the case, Oranio was driving his sports utility vehicle going to the city when he took a break in Palhi village to check his car’s tires. Then, out of nowhere, two men appeared and shot him several times. Oranio died on the spot.
The suspects were seen wearing face masks, sunglasses, ball caps, and sweatshirts while riding an SUV.
Four bullet shells were discovered in the crime scene by the scene-of-the-crime operatives.
Police are still looking into the motives of the killing and the identity of the gunmen. (RJ Espartinez)
