House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco is proposing anew his P420-billion “Bayanihan 3” bill to help struggling Filipinos and revive the country’s pandemic-scarred economy.
According to Velasco, a “whole-of-nation approach” was necessary to address health and socioeconomic inequalities.
“Effective coordination should be non-negotiable on all levels—local, regional, national, and global,” he said.
In early February, Velasco, together with Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo, filed House Bill 8628 or the “Bayanihan to Arise As One Act,” also known as “Bayanihan 3,” that will focus on economic recovery, such as providing small business subsidies, agricultural loans, unemployment allowances as well as typhoon rehabilitation.
“This will enable us to respond to both the urgency of the present time and the projected demands on our health systems and economies, post-pandemic,” Velasco said.
More than 220 House lawmakers are supporting the third Bayanihan measure, according to Velasco. Jade Veronique V. Yap
