The Valenzuela City government will launch next month a simultaneous door-to-door vaccination campaign to help fight polio.

The Department of Health (DOH) endorses vaccination as the most effective preventive measure against the deadly disease.

Parents are encouraged to submit their children to the vaccination schedules on October 14-27, 2019 for the first round and on November 1-14, 2019 for the second round.

The health concern on polio is caused by the re-emergence of the debilitating disease, 19 years after the country has been declared polio-free by the World Health Organization.

Poliomyelitis or polio is a contagious illness brought about by the poliovirus which could possibly cause the victim to be crippled, difficulty in breathing and even death.

Polio can be transmitted through contaminated food and drinking water reason why cleanliness of surroundings, good personal hygiene and cooking food well are highly recommended measures to prevent it from spreading.

Early signs of the disease include fever, difficulty in breathing, body ache, fatigue and even the feeling of being depressed. (Jojo Mangahis)
