The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) has opened a campus facility as a vaccination station for residents of Los Baños and Bay, the university’s two host municipalities.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) lauded UPLB for joining the growing number of higher education institutions (HEIs) offering their campus facilities as vaccination centers.

“The Commission lauds UPLB for facilitating the vaccination of its personnel, particularly those in the A1 and A2 priority groups so that they will be assured of protection and continue to provide essential education services,” CHEd Chairman Prospero de Vera said.

UPLB has also tapped its medical professionals and support staff to assist the local government units in inoculating residents.

On April 22, UPLB began the vaccination of those belonging to the A1 priority group, or frontline health workers, and those in A2, or senior citizens, at the university’s Copeland Gymnasium.

De Vera, who is also the chairman of the UP Board of Regent, added that using the campus’ gymnasium as a vaccination station would ensure that UPLB’s skeletal workforce who are under A4 priority groups, would receive the vaccine. This means preventing delays in the processing of student documents.

As of April 27, the Department of Health reported that a total of 1,809,801 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered. A total of 3,025,600 doses have also been distributed to 3,415 vaccination sites across 17 regions.
