The Department of Health (DOH) said that the government is looking at the possibility of putting the United Kingdom in the “red” list of areas tagged as high risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) amid the rise of a new Delta variant subtype.

“Pinagaaralan po natin iyan,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during a government briefing.

“Actually, ang assessment naman natin for countries para ma-tag siya kung red, yellow or green siya — every week naman po ‘yan,” she added.

The UK is listed under the “yellow” category of countries or territories tagged as moderate risk for Covid-19 until Oct. 31. Countries under the yellow list can enter the country, as long as the person will undergo quarantine and testing protocols.

Romania is the only country listed under the “red” category of countries or territories considered as high risk for Covid-19. Travelers from red countries are not allowed, unless for Filipino evacuees.

The AY.4.2 subtype was now a rising Covid-19 strand found in the UK. Vergeire said that they are now studying if the Delta subtype is 10% more contagious than the standard Delta variant. Ronald Espartinez
