The UAAP announced on Friday a new broadcasting deal with Cignal TV that will last for 5.5 years.
“(The UAAP) is proud to announce its broadcast partnership with Cignal TV for the next five and a half years, starting with UAAP Season 83,” it said in a statement.
Select UAAP events will also be aired on the One Sports channel.
“With its affiliate network, TV5, their combined experience in sports production provides the UAAP with a strong foundation in its efforts to promote collegiate sports in the country,” the league said.
ABS-CBN Sports+Action, the sports channel of shuttered network ABS-CBN, was the collegiate league’s broadcast partner until May this year.
It remains unclear when UAAP will commence its 83rd season, given the government’s restrictions on contact sports and age guidelines.
The league’s 82nd season was prematurely canceled due to Covid-19 last April.
Events that were not completed are men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s football, athletics, baseball, lawn tennis, softball and 3×3 basketball.
“Despite the current challenges, the league is looking forward to the partnership as a new chapter that can take the UAAP to even greater heights,” the UAAP said. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
