Twin quakes struck mere minutes apart off the coast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental Saturday morning.
Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude-6.0 tectonic quake struck at 8:43AM, 297 kilometers southeast of Sarangani. It had a depth of 88 kilometers.
Eight minutes later (8:51AM), a magnitude-5.4 tectonic quake struck at 304 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, with a depth of 97 kilometers.
The state seismology agency said no damages are to be expected from the twin quakes, but aftershocks are to be expected.
It also said that the twin tremblors pose “no destructive tsunami threat” to the Philippines. – Rommel F. Lopez
