The tourism department has helped send home more than 10,000 foreign tourists stranded in different parts of Central Visayas as a result of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.

“We have hauled 10,104 foreign nationals back to their country through sweeper flights initiated by their respective embassies,” said Regional Director Shalimar Hofer Tamano.

The foreign tourists came from Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea and the Scandinavian region.

The department also sent home 714 local tourists.

Fifty-nine sweeper flights were used by the Department of Tourism in Region 7 to send home stranded foreign tourists to their respective countries of origin since March. Ten were Philippine Airlines flights.

There are still 462 foreign tourists and another 796 domestic visitors still unable to go home, officials said. (Jojo Mangahis)
