The Department of Health (DOH) said that the national government’s group of experts are still studying the best time to implement the vaccinations for children against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“As a general policy, pumayag na ang all experts panel na magbakuna sa 12 to 17… yung time lang na kailan puwede at sino unahin,” Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said in a radio interview.

“Inaayos pa ang polisiya at guidelines. Dapat umpisahan ang pagbabakuna sa mga batang may comorbidities,” she added.

Cabotaje added that the consent of the parents and their kids are still importance before they will be able to receive the Covid-19 vaccines. Furthermore, side effects of Covid-19 vaccines on kids are being analyzed by experts.

The vaccination drive for kids against Covid-19 may start by October.

Cabotaje said they are in talks with the Department of Education (DepEd) to inoculate teaching and non-teaching staff to protect children with the government’s plans to resume face-to-face classes.

“‘Di maproproteksyunan ang bata kapag sa environment niya ay hindi protektado,” she said. Ronald Espartinez
