“We had a saying in the Corps. Save one life and you’re a hero. Save a hundred lives, well, then you’re a nurse.”
“Ratched” premieres as a Netflix original series on Sept. 18, starring Sarah Paulson (“American Horror Story”) who portrays the so-called asylum nurse in this prequel to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the screenwriters behind the thriller-drama series, tell the story of Mildred Ratched, who seeks employment in a psychiatric hospital where unsettling mind experiments take place.
The series, set in the late 1940s, also stars Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood and Jon Jon Briones as Dr. Richard Hanover.
The trailer was released on Aug. 4, giving the audience a glimpse of what to expect in the new original series.
In the preview, Nurse Ratched’s stylish and intense character is shown as she tells a fuel station attendant, “You should bathe more often, your fingernails are filthy.” Laimae R. Chua
