The Caloocan City Metropolitan Trial Court on Tuesday ordered the release of “Tatay Elmer,” the 72-year old who was among the six members of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) who were arrested and jailed for staging a protest in Caloocan City.

The court ordered the discharge after Elmer Cordero posted the P10,000 bond.

Twitter user @joshualibarnes posted a video of Cordero thanking actress Angel Locsin for helping him get free.

Malacañang earlier today said Cordero had to undergo due process regardless of age, but Palace spokesman Harry Roque said if no evidence was found, then Cordero must be released immediately.

Four of the “Piston 6” were freed yesterday after being jailed for violation of mass gathering rules and resistance to persons in authority.

Cordero and Wilson Ramilla were left in detention after pending cases were found under their names.

The six were arrested after staging a protest on June 2 against the ban on jeepneys, which had been in place since March. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
