A Facebook post falsely claimed on July 25 that a low-pressure area (LPA) would soon develop into a typhoon, named “Dindo,” and would make landfall on the Philippines this weekend.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it raised Tropical Wind Signal No. 2 in parts of Northern Luzon, with tropical cyclone “Florita” strengthening into a tropical storm.
Only Batanes is under Signal No. 2, with winds of greater than 61 kilometers per hour (kph) and up to 120 kph expected within the next 24 hours. Apayao, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte and Babuyan group of Islands were downgraded to Signal No. 1.
Apayao, Batanes and Cagayan (including the Babuyan Group of Islands) will experience winds greater than 61 kph and up to 120 kph in at least 24 hours.
