The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said that over 12% of SIM cards in the Philippines have been registered with their respective telecommunications firms as of January 15, 2023.

The Credit Card Association of the Philippines (CCAP) said that the implementation of the SIM registration law will help lessen credit card fraud and boost digitalization in the country.
Under the bill, SIM card subscribers will be required to register their SIM cards along with any government-issued identification document. However, the bill does not state that it will directly give the government access to subscriber data.
