President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday called for the immediate enactment of bills taxing Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) and creating the Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos, palace spokesman Harry Roque said.
Malacañang on Thursday said that Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) would not be allowed to resume operations until they have settled their unpaid taxes.
House Minority Leader Bienvenido Abante Jr., author of the bill, expressed his opposition to POGO operations, saying POGOs “do not provide any tangible, impactful benefits to our country,” during a privilege speech at the House on Monday.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon backed the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry on Saturday, describing as an “insult” the Palace position that Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) can be allowed to resume business because they are in the same category as BPOs.
