The Department of Health (DOH) said the Philippines needs around 106,000 nurses to fill the shortage being experienced in all healthcare facilities in the country.
The Department of Health (DOH) has reassigned healthcare workers from other areas in the country to fill the shortage of manpower in Metro Manila amid the spike of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections.
According to Alice Visperas, director of the International Labor Affairs Bureau, the DOLE had requested Covid-19 vaccines from the UK and Germany and offered to ease the country’s limit on the overseas deployment of health workers set at 5,000 per year.
“Mga about 38 percent ng ating pondo na iyan ay para sa human resources for health. We like to continue on with the deployment of doctors, nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a Laging Handa briefing.
