VP Duterte names Briones as DepEd consultant
Vice President Sara Duterte named her predecessor in the Department of Education (DepEd), Leonor Briones, as her consultant.
Vice President Sara Duterte named her predecessor in the Department of Education (DepEd), Leonor Briones, as her consultant.
In a Palace briefing, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the agency was studying effects of prolonged vacation periods on teachers, parents and students.
In a Laging Handa briefing, Briones cited results of a United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) study, which she said showed that more than 90 percent of Covid-19 infections among children were developed at home.
Briones said President Rodrigo Duterte’s mandate to prohibit face-to-face classes amid the Covid-19 pandemic helped lessen risks among students and teachers.
“The school opening of this year is a momentous occasion because it is pushing through despite a global health crisis due to Covid-19. Indeed, nothing can get in the way of the instruction and formation of our learners,” Duterte said in a pre-recorded message.
