More than 500 teachers and support personnel from private and public schools staged a protest on Labor Day in Manila to call for salary increases, benefits, humane working conditions, and educational reforms.
Although no charges were filed against the group, a Kadamay spokesperson said that the four “were arrested for posting their calls on social media during the Labor Day online protest.”
President Rodrigo Duterte on Labor Day reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protect workers’ rights through “humanization of laws and equalization of social forces,” and urged the private sector to follow suit.
Senators on Tuesday have renewed their call for enhanced workers’ rights, pressuring the administration to push through with their promises to the Filipino labor sector.
