Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III believes closed circuit television (CCTV) footage will show what really happened when transwoman Gretchen Diez was asked to leave the women’s toilet and allegedly harassed by the mall’s janitress, Chayra Ganal.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night met with the transwoman at the center of a controversy over restroom access, signalling support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and an anti-discrimination bill being lobbied in Congress.
Chayra Ganal, 25, said she had been allowing transwomen to use the female restroom on many occasions in the past. But last Aug. 13, she said two women complained about transwoman Gretchen Diez’s presence in the toilet, prompting her to recommend the nearby male restroom.
