President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night met with the transwoman at the center of a controversy over restroom access, signalling support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and an anti-discrimination bill being lobbied in Congress.
“It’s not true I told her (Ganal) to shut up, that’s a big lie. Everything is on video. In fact, she was the one who walked out on me. I was telling her and explaining to her the importance of treating all human beings with respect and dignity,” Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman told PressOne.PH.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros believes that both the trans woman who was barred from entering a woman’s comfort room and the mall janitress were both victims, and called for the passage of bills on anti-discrimination and security of tenure.
