Meralco to fix, refund overbilled power charges – energy regulators

Some 2.4 million consumers in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces will be shocked to discover that they will have to pay three or four times more than their usual power consumption.
The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has assured consumers it would provide stable and steady power supply during the 30-day enhanced community quarantine throughout Luzon.
Electricity rates for a typical household consuming at least 200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) increased to P9.0862 per kWh this October from last month’s P9.0414 per kWh. The increase of P0.0488 per kWh will mean a hike of P9 in the typical household’s total bill.
The supply deals with PHINMA Energy Corp., San Miguel Energy Corp. and South Premier Power Corp. involve a contract capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW) and will be effective Dec. 26, 2019.
