Sorsogon 2nd District Representative Maria Bernadita “Ditas” Ramos has passed away after testing positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19)
House Deputy Majority Leader Xavier Jesus Romualdo announced her passing during the plenary session of the lower chamber on Tuesday.
“It is with sadness that we just found out that our dear colleague, Rep. Maria Bernadita ‘Ditas’ Ramos of the 2nd district of Sorsogon has passed away,” Romualdo said.
However, her official cause of death has not yet been revealed.
On Sunday, House Secretary-General Jose Luis Montales announced that the lower chamber received a report that the congresswoman tested positive for Covid-19.
Ramos is the 8th sitting House member to get infected with Covid-19 and the second to die after testing positive for the same disease. Senior Citizens party-list Representative Francisco “Jun” Datol Jr. was the first Filipino lawmaker to die of the disease. He died on August 10. He was 71 years old.
Currently, a total of 70 cases of COVID-19 have already been reported among congressional representatives and staff of the House of Representatives.
