The government will conduct a “special-focus” vaccination drive in the Visayas and Mindanao starting March 29, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.
In a Palace briefing, Vergeire said the special vaccination drive would be held in Central Visayas ad the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“Sa March 29 to 31 po mayroon po tayong targeted vaccination sa Cebu or sa Region VII and on March 30, 31 and April 1 we have these special vaccination days in BARMM,” she said.
Areas to participate in the special vaccination drive are those with low vaccination rates determined by the Department of Health and National Vaccinations Operations Center.
The government recently concluded the fourth “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” drive, wherein some 1.8 million individuals received Covid-19 vaccine jabs.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier said the country had been facing a vaccine demand issue due to “complacency.”
According to the vaccine czar, the country’s vaccination rate has been on the decline since November 2021.
The government is aiming to have 70 million Filipinos fully vaccinated before April and 90 million fully vaccinated by the end of June to achieve population protection.
As of March 23, the country has 65.4 million fully vaccinated individuals. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
