The Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG) said that the search for the missing cockfighters or “sabungeros” continues, and that they are hoping for a miracle that the men are still alive.

In a press conference, CIDG chief Police Brigadier General Ronald Lee shared Department of Justice Secretary (DOJ) Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s opinion that after a long time, the missing cockfighters should be pronounced dead.

Lee said Remulla was being truthful.

“I don’t want na bigyan po kayo ng pag-asa po, ng false hope, but we will still pray for a miracle,” said Lee.

He said that based on his experience in the CIDG, kidnapping victims in Luzon only want money and usually don’t hold them captive for a longer time.

The DOJ on Monday charged three police officers for kidnapping and robbery of one of the missing cockfighters.

Lee added that the investigation continues since some of the suspects they are following are part of the police force.

“Mayroon pong nasa service, karamihan po diyan ay nasa service and mayroon din pong mga civilian,” Lee said.
