A magnitude 6.2 quake struck off the coast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental Wednesday morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake struck at 7:21am, 86 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at a depth of 16 kilometers. It was tectonic in nature.
Intensity V was felt in General Santos City, South Cotabato while Intensity IV was felt at Kiamba, Alabel, Maasim, Glan, Malungon and Malapatan Saranggani; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao; Koronadal City, Polomolok, Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato
Intensity III was recorded in Maitum, Sarangani; Cotabato City, Maguindanao; Davao City; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Tantangan and Santo Nino, South Cotabato; Intensity II in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, North Cotabato and Intensity I in Zamboanga City
The following Instrumental Intensities were recorded:
Intensity V – Gen. Santos City, South Cotabato
Intensity IV – Kiamba, Saranggani; Tupi, South Cotabato; Koronadal City, South Cotabato
Intensity III – Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Alabel, Saranggani; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato
A 2.4 magnitude quake aftershock struck soon after.
The state quake agency said the quake struck at 8:49AM. Its epicenter is at 7 kilometers southwest of Sarangani at a depth of 3 kilometers. Rommel F. Lopez
