Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday revealed that Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, would run for president and vice president in the 2022 national elections.

In a statement, Sara hit the PDP-Laban duo for “mak[ing] me the reason for them running or not running.”

“I strongly suggest to the president and Senator Go to own up publicly their decision to run as a tandem. If they can confirm it privately, then I do not see the reason why they cannot be candid about it to the public,” the presidential daughter said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said President Duterte and Go’s 2022 plans would depend on Sara’s political aspirations.

“If I were to quote him (Duterte)…ang kanyang sinabi po ay, ‘Should Sara decide to run, Bong Go is out. For my part, dahil delicadeza, hindi po puwede dalawa kami diyan, if she runs, out na rin ako,’ so yun po ang sinabi niya.,” Roque said in a Radyo Pilipinas interview.

The PDP-Laban faction headed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi announced on Tuesday Duterte’s decision to accept its nomination for the 2022 elections.

Sara said Duterte had talked to her and pushed her to either endorse the Go-Duterte tandem or take in Go as her vice president.

“I respectfully advise them to stop talking about me and mak[ing] me the reason for them running and not running,” she added.

Duterte has consistently urged his daughter not to pursue the presidency, saying it was not a job for women. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
