Lawyer Harry Roque has resigned from his posts as spokesman of Malacañang and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases, he announced on Monday.

Roque said he resigned to run for Senate. He filed his certificate for candidacy for senator on Monday afternoon.

Roque became spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte on Nov. 6, 2017.

He resigned in 2019 to run for a Senate seat in the midterm elections but later withdrew due to health reasons.

He returned to being Palace spokesman in April 2020.

“Ito na po ang huling araw na makakasama ninyo ako bilang inyong presidential spox, IATF spox at spox ng bayan,” he said as he ended his Monday presser.

Roque in December 2020 said he was looking forward to retirement and “having [his] privacy again come 2022.”

Last month, he said he would run for Senate if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio seeks a national post.
