Palace spokesman Harry Roque on Tuesday belied rumors that he was set to run for senator in 2022, saying he was looking forward to retirement.

“After what I’ve seen with the kind of media reporting and the kind of trolls that the opposition has, I’m looking forward to retirement from government service,” Roque told reporters.

Roque became spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte on Nov. 6, 2017.

He resigned in 2019 to run for a Senate seat in the midterm elections but later withdrew due to health reasons.

In April this year, he returned to being Palace spokesman, replacing now-Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo.

“Alam ninyo po, buong buhay ko, I’ve always been a private person. I only became a government employee when I became a congressman in 2016,” Roque said.

“And I’m happy to say that actually I have been there and done that, and I look forward to having my privacy again come 2022,” he added. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
