The designations of close allies of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the country’s ambassadors to the US and the United Nations (UN) were confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday.

Marcos Jr.’s second cousin Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez retained his position as Philippine Ambassador to the US.

He has held the post since the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte did not visit the US once during his six-year term. In 2021, he said he had not been to the country for 22 years.

The appointment of Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN Antonio Manuel Lagdameo was also confirmed by the CA.

He is the father of Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo, who was the biggest contributor in Marcos Jr.’s presidential campaign.

The CA deferred deliberations for the appointment of Foreign Affairs Secretary Luis Enrique Manalo. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
