Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo said aims to recognize the voices of various sectors, including the marginalized, in the policy-making processes of the government if she becomes president.

Robredo said her “biggest advocacy” is to make sure that citizens will become “partners” of public officials, and not just recipients of the programs.

To make this plan possible, she will institutionalize a People’s Council across all local government units and agencies.

“May representatives ‘yung iba’t ibang sektor na umuupo sa lahat na committees. Pag sinabi kong lahat, talagang lahat – executive tsaka legislative, lahat ng committees ng local government units,” she said during a virtual meet-and-greet with supporters.

Robredo noted that people’s lack of participation usually resulted in policies that fail to solve a lot of gaps.

“Pag nagbababa kami ng programa na hindi naman namin nararamdaman ‘yung pinagdadaanan ng mga sektor, kadalasan ‘yung mga programang binababa namin hindi siya responsive sa pinaka-kinakailangan,”she said.

“So ‘yung sa atin, ‘yun ‘yung overarching principle. Sisiguraduhin nating may boses kayo from start to finish,” she added.

Robredo proposed a similar legislation before, called the People Empowerment bill when she was a Camarines Sur representative. Ronald Espartinez
