Senator Robin Padilla wants to impose tariffs on foreign shows to improve production in the local film industry.

Padilla said during the Senate hearing on the 2023 budget of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) that funds from tariffs of “imported” shows could aid Filipinos working in the film sector.

Padilla also wants the government to provide additional funds to the FDCP for the restoration of old Philippine films.  He also supports the bid to have FDCP’s own building with its own vault to preserve old movies.

FDCP Chairman Tirso Cruz III said the proposed new building will last for at least 40 to 50 years and the P500,000 monthly rent can be reallocated to aiding film industry workers.
