The Philippines reported three more fatalities due to rabies from August 14 to 23, pushing the nationwide death toll to 233 this year.

This is 19% higher than the 195 rabies cases posted during the same period last year.

The newest rabies cases came from Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Metro Manila.

The Department of Health (DOH) revealed that this year’s victims were aged three to 87 years. Most of the victims were seniors.

Rabies can be transmitted through an infected animal’s bite or scratch, like cats and dogs.

Around 300 Filipinos succumb every year due to rabies.
