A local red tide warning has been issued over Honda Bay in Palawan.
A laboratory microscopic test conducted by the Palawan Red Tide Testing Center showed that water samples collected from Honda Bay were positive for pyrodinum bahamanse var. compressum.
The toxic microorganism can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning, prompting the local government to issue a public warning against collecting, selling and eating of any types of shellfish.
However, fish, squid and crabs can be eaten as long as they are fresh, their entrails are removed, and are thoroughly washed prior to cooking. (Jojo Mangahis)
