10 February 2022

RICHARD I. GOMEZ, DPA
Mayor
City of Ormoc

Dear Sir:

I write in response to your letter dated Feb. 7 and received by email on Feb. 8, regarding our  fact-check story on your Feb. 1 Facebook post.

In your Facebook post endorsing the presidential bid of former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,  you said: “Sa kanilang lahat na tumatakbo, siya lang ang nakatulong sa Ormoc City during  disasters and difficult times. Madaling lapitan, madaling kausapin.” (Emphases mine.)

Your statement implies that it was only Mr. Marcos who helped Ormoc City during disasters  and difficult times. This was rated “false” as shown by a simple search of news stories reporting  efforts by other candidates to help Ormoc.

We later found out that Sen. Manny Pacquiao was physically in Ormoc City in December 2013  to deliver relief goods directly, which further validates our conclusion, as not all donations have  to pass through the city government. The video of the news clip is on Youtube:

We will publish your letter and its attachment on our site and link it to all related stories, and  let our readers judge the facts for themselves.

Your office is welcome to send statements, news releases, and other press materials to  news@pressone.ph.

Thank you.
