The Philippine National Police (PNP) logged 63,000 health protocol violators in the past 15 days in areas in the country under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar mentioned that the majority of the violators were given warnings.
“Eighty-three percent sa kanila ay warning lamang, compared noong ECQ period na 43,000 daily,” Eleazar said during an interview with dzBB.
Eleazar added that in Metro Manila alone, around 13,000 were recorded during the duration of the MECQ. Among the said number, 61% were issued warnings, 34% were fined while 5% were brought to the police station to face other offenses.
People going out has increased under the MECQ status as it allowed more businesses to operate.
An OCTA Research poll showed that the majority of Filipinos followed health protocols to control the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Eighty-nine percent of respondents said they wore face masks, and 85% cleaned their hands using water and soap, or alcohol. Ronald Espartinez
