The Philippine National Police (PNP) said 39 of its members have died due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The most recent fatality was reported on Friday following the 38th death recorded a day before.
Currently, there are 15,329 total infections in the police force: 12,801 recoveries and 2,489 active cases
The PNP recorded 230 new infections.
PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas announced that more spaces in Camp Crame have been opened for police workers as temporary quarantine facilities to treat their Covid-19 infection.
The Kiangan Billeting and Transient Quarters with sports facilities has already been transformed into quarantine facilities that can accommodate up to 55 patients.
Sinas added that the Kiangan facility is currently the main quarantine facility in Camp Crame for Covid-19 positive cases.
PNP Health Service director Police Brigadier General Luisito Magnaye explained that the surge of infections among its ranks was unexpected.
“Some of whom also brought members of their families who tested positive. There were also members of the LGUs who also took advantage of the facility for assessment of their conditions,” the PNP said. Ronald dela Cruz
