The Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP) of the Philippines has recommended distributing second Covid-19 vaccine booster shots to senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals.

National Task Force Against Covid-19 adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa said the VEP had recommended the measure to the Department of Health.

“Hintayin na lang natin maaprubahan ito ng ating IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases) para ma-implement na,” Herbosa said in a “Laging Handa” briefing.

The government started administering booster shots in November last year.

Booster shots were made available to the general population the following month.

The government is eyeing to provide 72.16 million booster doses to Filipinos by yearend.

So far, only more than 11 million booster shots have been administered. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
