The Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,475 additional coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases Monday, elevating the country’s total cases to 290,190.

Seventy-six percent of the newly-reported cases occurred in the last 14 days according to the DOH.

Metro Manila remains the region with the highest number of cases with 1,543 new additional cases.  This represents 44% of the day’s total cases. Batangas had 194 cases reported followed by Rizal with 192, Cavite with 166 and Cebu with 165.

Of the total confirmed cases, 54,958 were considered active or those still undergoing treatment or quarantine.

The health department also reported 15 new deaths bringing the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 4,999.

Of the newly reported deaths, one died in April, six in August and eight in September.

Meanwhile, total number of recoveries rose to 230,233 after 400 more patients won their battle against the deadly respiratory disease.

The Philippines has the second highest number of new cases reported Monday in Southeast Asia trailing Indonesia’s 4,176.  The country also has second highest number of Covid-19 deaths in Southeast Asia behind neighboring Indonesia with 9,677deaths as of Monday.

Globally, the Covid-19 has infected 31.29 million individuals, causing the deaths of 965,857 individuals since it was first detected in China late last year.  Rommel F. Lopez
