The OCTA Research Team on Monday said the country’s daily Covid-19 cases could dip to as low as 300 by the end of the month.

In a “Laging Handa” briefing, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said Covid-19 cases in Alert Level 1 areas had been decreasing.

“Medyo nag-slow down ‘yung pagbaba pero bumababa pa rin [ang cases],” he said.

“Inaasahan natin na patuloy itong bababa [and]by end-March, posibleng a few hundreds na lang ‘yan, baka 300 to 500 tulad noong nakita natin noong December last year bago pumasok ‘yung Omicron,” he added.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier said the Philippines had overcome the threat of the highly infectious Omicron Covid-19 variant, which caused a surge in cases earlier in the year.

The country has recorded sub-1,000 new Covid-19 cases in each of the past five days.

David said the country’s indicators were all improving.

“Hopefully, by end of March or first week of April talagang mababa na ‘yung numbers natin pero dapat patuloy ang pagsunod natin sa minimum public health standards at pagpapabakuna at boosters,” he added.

As of March 7, the Philippines has 48,793 active Covid-19 cases. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
