The Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,249 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the country bringing the total caseload to 205,581 as of today, August 27.

Most of the new cases came from Metro Manila (1,584), Cavite (147), Laguna (143), Negros Occidental (140) and Batangas (123).

Total active cases stand at 68,357.

However, total Covid-19-related deaths is now at 3,234 after 97 new deaths were added to the tally.

Of the newly-reported fatalities, 6 died in June and May, 51 in July and 40 in August. Bulk of these deaths came from Metro Manila at 63.

The new cases came from submissions of 98 out of 110 Covid-testing laboratories across the country.  The Health Department added that it had removed 29 duplicates from the case tally.

The DOH said about 2.27 million people in the country have so far been tested for Covid-19.

India has the most number of reported new cases for today at 7,204 followed by the Philippines which still has the most number of Covid-19 cases in Southeast Asia.  Rommel F. Lopez
