President Rodrigo Duterte has extended the country’s Covid-19 state of calamity until September 2021.

The extension took effect on Sept. 13 and will last until Sept. 12, 2021.

According to Proclamation No. 1021, the state of calamity declaration may be “earlier lifted or extended as circumstances may warrant.”

Duterte said the extension would let the government continue utilizing appropriate funds, including the quick response fund, in disaster preparedness and Covid-19 response efforts.

It would also allow the government to monitor and control prices of basic necessities and prime commodities and provide basic services.

Duterte also directed the military to ensure peace and order in the country amid the pandemic.

The country’s Covid-19 case tally rose to 279,526 on Friday, with 3,257 new infections recorded. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
