The Department of Health reported Sunday 3,311 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) bringing the country’s total case load to 286,743.

Metro Manila remains the top region with the highest number of new cases with 1,182 new cases or 43% of total cases logged on Sunday. Calabarzon logged in 555 new cases, and Western Visayas with 299.

Total active cases in the country is at 51,894.

The DOH said 2,774 cases or 84% of the newly-recorded cases happened in the last 14 days from September 7 to September 20.

The Health Department also recorded 55 more deaths bringing the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 4,984.

Total recoveries jumped to 229,865 after the DOH reported 20,021 patients who have since recovered from the pathogen.

The Philippines continues to top Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19.  It also has the world’s longest quarantine to contain the spread of the virus, currently at 187 days since the first imposition of enhanced community quarantine.  Rommel F. Lopez
