The Department of Health (DOH) reported Thursday 3,375 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases nationwide, bringing the country’s total past the 276,000 mark.
The country’s current Covid-19 cases number 276,289, of which 63,408 are active cases, or about 23% are still undergoing treatment or quarantine.
The Health Department said 75 percent percent of the newly-reported cases contracted COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
Metro Manila accounts for the most number of cases with 963, followed by Bulacan with 448, Cavite with 274, Negros Occidental with 153 and Batangas with 119.
The DOH also reported 317 new recoveries, with the country’s recovery count now totalling 208,096.
The death toll, on the other hand, reached 4,785 after the DOH reported 53 additional deaths. The DOH said that out of this figure, 36 passed away in September, 14 in August and four in July.
The Health Department also said 19 cases found to be duplicates were removed from the case count. There were also 67 cases that were previously reported as recovered but were found to be 11 deaths and 56 active cases after final validation.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier said the Health Department observed an increase in infections in 53 areas across the country.
Worldwide, the Philippines reported the 6th highest number of cases. India had the most number of cases reported Thursday with 13,025, followed by Russia (5,762), Mexico (4,444), Indonesia (3,635) Ukraine (3,584) and the Philippines. Rommel F. Lopez
