The OCTA Research group announced the Philippines reported an uptick of new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases by 7% to 6,247 compared to last week.

OCTA said in its latest report that an average positivity rate of 14% has been reported over the past week. 

The Philippines reported 8,562 new Covid-19 infections on Friday, the highest cases reported since May 28. 

The National Capital Region (NCR), on the other hand, posted an average of 1,155 for this week—35% higher than last week’s average. 

OCTA also confirmed that the positivity rate in NCR increased to 9%.

“Hospital bed occupancy in the NCR increased to 43% compared to 7 days ago; the number of occupied hospital beds increased to 12% over the same period,” it said.

“ICU bed occupancy in the NCR increased to 52%. The number of ICU beds occupied in the NCR increased by 21% from the previous week,” it added.

The research group identified Cebu, Ilocos Norte, Bulacan, Misamis Oriental, Pampanga, Rizal, and Bataan as areas with significant increase in new infections. Ronald Espartinez
