The Philippines has more than 9,000 positive cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH) reported Sunday.

295 new cases were recorded bringing the country’s total COVID-19 cases to 9,223.

In a bit of good news, 90 patients recovered from the dreaded respiratory disease, bringing the country’s total recoveries to 1,214.

However, 4 patients died from the disease bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 607.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported 1,751 Filipinos living abroad to have tested positive for COVID-19.  471 recovered while 210 succumbed to the virus.

Total cases worldwide is at 3.4 million.  More than 243,000 died from the disease according to the  Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

Singapore still has the most number of confirmed cases in Southeast Asia with 18,205 followed by Indonesia with 11,192. The Philippines is third while Malaysia has 6,298. (Rommel F. Lopez)
